Arcadia Versus the Illinois Giants

Baseball Game Poster -- Click for closeup.
Poster for Game Held in September 8, 1926
Source: Pete Sandman, Frankfort Historian

This poster was found in the stairwell of a house in Frankfort, Michigan, when the owners were remodeling. It announces a baseball game in 1926 between Arcadia and the Illinois Giants, "the champion traveling independent colored baseball team of the United States." The poster shows the earliest known photo of Ted "Double Duty" Radcliffe (front row, second from left), who would become a Negro League baseball legend and six-time all-star, three times each as a pitcher and catcher.

Who won? Local papers from that period appear not to have covered the game.
