Arcadia's Railroad

In 1881, Henry Starke began construction on a narrow gauge railway to carry logs to early Arcadia, Michigan. In 1893, he began construction of a standard gauge railroad that would eventually reach Copemish 21 miles away. This exhibit summarizes the history of Arcadia's railroad.

John W. Parkman's Map
John W. Parkman was a surveyor who drew this map of the route of the Starke Land & Lumber Company's narrow gauge railway. Later this part of the route changed quite a bit when the railway converted to standard gauge. (Click here for a close-up view.)
